From shaping fashion to our living environments, textiles are indispensable to our everyday lives. Over recent years, the integration of a variety of functionalities into fabrics in conjunction with the exploration of a range of applications have been under development through the creation of smart textiles.
During 2020, ZOZO NEXT have collaborated with Yasuaki Kakehi Lab, The Univ of Tokyo and HOSOO to research the synthesis of technology in the traditional Japanese craft of Nishijin silk fabrics. Through combining technical functionality with beauty, the creation of new textiles have been achieved.
The concept of Ambient Weaving focuses on ‘The expression of ambience through textiles’,and ‘Weaving environments into fabrics’. The proposal aims to use textiles as a medium to display the information gained from our surroundings and turn this into a beautiful, elevated experience.
Fabrics have been chosen as an interface for ambient media by expressing its response to the surrounding environment. The way in which this has been achieved is displayed through the exhibited prototypes.
